Embers and Ice Pitmaster Challenge Logo

The Embers and Ice Pitmaster Challenge is a Northern Alberta based BBQ competition and affiliate of the internationally-recognized BBQ community, the Kansas City BBQ Society. Formerly known as Porkapalooza this group was looking to rebrand their competition for 2023 with elements more suited to their roots. As they are the highest latitude BBQ competition in the KCBS, their board members renamed the competition “Embers and Ice” to proudly reflect the cold Albertan climate and wanted iconography in their future branding to match.

Keeping the design simple and spacious, while considering some of the inevitable uses for this logo – hat embroidery, t-shirt silk screening, engraving or medallion embossing, as well as minuscule circular social media profile images, I presented the board with several versions of icons, fonts, and proportions. They unanimously chose this “Blue Ribbon” circular seal logo style.
